dragon

August 31, 2008

phew! finally finished this drawing. medium is marker ink. it took me alot alot of time, and alot alot of my favourite marker pens’ ink. bleh. but at least it turned out quite alright. seriously, it took me many nights to complete this… especially those small puny little scales.

eh…the colours of some parts are a little weird coz i only have a limited range of colours, and i think the tongue should have been pink instead of red, but i couldn’t colour over anymore coz the red is too dark. yupps, i am most proud of the scales XD

fire hydrant

August 29, 2008

just came back from english tuition at clementi. i decided to walk home instead of taking the bus…so on the way back i saw this fire hydrant with this packet of coffee hanging on it. tsk tsk…so inconsiderate. a full packet also, what a waste, but i didn’t plan to drink it. and i doubt the person is going to come back for it, so once again the job has been left to the cleaners.

yupp…so i made full use of the situation and whipped out my camera to take a picture of this inconsiderate and irresponsible act.

just for fun.

August 25, 2008

i drew 3 maple story characters :)

haha! i think this is the “funnest” drawing i’ve ever done since a long long time. like not something i had to draw, but something i wanted to draw. i got the pictures from 3 ang paos which my uncle gave me during chinese year this year (yupp, i kept them until now).

this time i’m trying out a new medium–pen on paper. usually i use pencil, because i’m the careful type, and don’t like the “one-wrong-stroke-and-you’re-dead” kind of pressure. of course i still made some mistakes, so no choice…had to use liquid paper. and sorry about the smudges on the left corner. due to my lack of experience with pen, i didn’t know how to manipulate it, which resulted in the many smudges. but i think i improved towards the back, as you can see that there were less smudges further to the right.

here it is, hope you enjoy it as i much as i do!

red liger

August 24, 2008

i rushed out this red liger during the weekends, but i added some colour, coz i thought it would be more interesting instead of my drawings being all black and white each time. but i think it looks a bit weird coz i didn’t colour the entire thing, and shaded some parts grey.

finally…LIGER!

August 20, 2008

yay! i finally finished my liger! actually this drawing was done really long ago, it was supposed to be for block test 1. but i never finished the tail because i couldn’t get into my robot-drawing mood, but today i forced myself to finish it so that i could upload it ;) so here it is; enjoy!

super cool liger!

super cool liger!

oops…sorry the bottom left corner of the pic is a bit dark, think i didn’t press down the cover hard enough when scanning.

actually even though i only started drawing this kind of detailed robot stuff not long ago, but i find that i get the most sense of satisfaction, and enjoy drawing it the most. actually i don’t really fancy drawing because my skills aren’t very good, but this is something i can draw and want to draw. so even though i’m not able to do purely drawings for my coursework, i’ll probably continue drawing it in my own free time. actually if i really did do this for my coursework, i’d probably end up quite sick of it, so at least now my interest is still there.

brother’s project

August 16, 2008

recently helped my brother with his school project. he is supposed to propose something new which has yet to be on the market, so…he decided on a DIY shower head that contains charcoal and tourmaline stones. it is supposed to purify and mineralise water. quite cool actually, except that because he was chosen to represent the school, he had to make a magnified prototype. so my dad and i got that job =.= my dad and i had this mini bonding session while working on it and watching Troy.

the shower head looks kinda like a fan, heh…but i think its quite cute. i especially like the little shower holes on the shower head, they’re made of plasticine. the beige balls are supposed to represent the tourmaline stones.

Transformer! ^^

August 15, 2008

hohoho!

merry AEP everyone. since i’m in a AEP mood now, which is really rare, i shall upload my FAVOURITE robot drawing. yupp, i finally found it. actually it was in some art storeroom, and luckily Mr. Lim found it, or i would be SO sad. and there’s the other squid one, which is quite nice…if you don’t really examine it close up. all in all i did 3 pieces of drawing/painting last year. the other is a sketchy kind of pencil drawing of this boy/man, but i couldn’t find it. wah!

hope you enjoy it as much as i do! :D

Essay Time.

August 12, 2008

Question: Describe one of Han Sai Por’s Sculpture.

Tropical Brain Forest by Han Sai Por is a sculpture of numerous brains. The sculpture is currently located at the Defense Science Centre. The brains are oval in shape, and each brain tree is uniquely designed. They are erected on straight poles in 4 different levels. They form 4 circles, one inside the other, with the most number of trees on the outer most circle and on the lowest step. As the circles move in, the number of brain trees decreases, and they become taller. Finally in the middle, one tree stands alone on the tallest pole. From a horizontal viewpoint, the trees form a pyramid shape. They are green in colour so as to give a leaf-like appearance–the greenness of a forest. They brain tree sculptures are  closely packed and varying in height so as give a sense of denseness, like trees in a rainforest.

Question: Describe one of Antony Gormley’s installations in relation to the concept of land art.

Another Place by Anotny Gormley is a series of sculptures that consists of 100 cast iron figures which face out to sea. All in all, they are spread out over a 3.2km stretch of beach. Each figure is 189-cm tall (perfect height to be my boyfriend. haha!) and weighs around 650-kg, and they are all cast replicates of the artists’ own body.

Man’s relationship with nature is explored through the ebb and flow of the tide in this piece of art work by Antony Gormley. At the seaside, time is being tested by the tides, whereby architecture by the elements and the prevalence of the sky seems to question the earth’s substance. At low tide, all 100 cast figures are exposed; while at high tide, most of them are totally submerged and experiencing “Another Place”. The viewer’s experience of the work depends on the state of the tide, the weather conditions and the time of the day. Through this piece of work, human life is tested against time on Earth. These sculptures, being exposed to light and time , portray the nakedness of a particular and peculiar body. It also illustrates the concept that there is no heroes or ideals, just the industrially reproduced body of a man trying to remain standing and trying to breath–the mere fight for survival.

Question: Compare and contrast the works by the artists (Antony Gormley and Han Sai Por), paying attention to their concerns in art.

The differences are that Han Sai Por is more concerned with nature and medium while Antony Gormley is more interested in human form and human uncertainty–the relationship between art, society and environment. Also, Sai Por prefers working with small art works and uses stone and marble as her preferred medium, while Antony’s works are becoming increasingly big, and he prefers using steel and metal for his sculptures. Han Sai Por deals with positive spaces when dealing with sculptures as she carves the granites, while Antony deals more with negative spaces due to all the casts he uses to make his figures.

However, they are similar in the sense that they both deal with organic forms, and prefer the raw state of shapes. They both also use replication and repetition in their art works, yet still in their different ways.

heh! that’s the end of this essay. quite boring right, i wouldn’t read it if i were you too. only the teacher would, because he/she has to grade it. but anyway hope it sounds okay, coz when i first wrote it it was in point form, and my english ain’t very good.yer.

happy sleeping everyone! its 11.50pm…the wordpress time is different. sorry…so random!
